⚽️ ⚽️ PSG Edges Past Angers To Stay Atop Ligue 1 Standings ⚽️ ⚽️

 ⚽️ ⚽️ Paris Saint-Germain 6- Angers 1  ⚽️  ⚽️

Paris Saint-Germain - Angers ( 2-1 )

PSG got a victory over Angers on Friday, although they needed to mount a comeback to avoid a letdown. They did so, earning a decent 2-1 win on a day when they hardly were playing their best. Yet, the win is what counts the most, and they got it.

For most of the game, that was far from a foregone conclusion.

Angelo Fulgini scored a goal for Angers in the 36th minute to put them up, 1-0, stunning the home team and the home crowd at the Parc des Princes.

It was to remain in favor of Angers for the duration of the first half, and even well into the second half, as well.

However, the Parisians finally got going a bit when Danilo Pereira finally broke through for PSG, scoring the tying goal in the 69th minute.

Then, superstar Kylian Mbappé did his thing, scoring a goal in the 87th minute on a penalty kick, giving PSG their first lead of the game.

There was little time left, and PSG managed to hold Angers off for the rest of the time to preserve the win, and to remain hot in Ligue 1 play. They have earned 27 points in 10 games played, which gives them a comfortable margin over the second place team, Lens, which has earned 18 points in 9 games played. Angers is currently in fourth place, having accumulated 16 points after 10 games played, as well.

  1. Despite being a PSG fan, when I watched the highlights on YouTube, it wasn't clear that the penalty should have been awarded. It seems that PSG tends to get inspired and play at its best in the "big" games (Champions League, or Ligue 1 games against Marseille, Lyon, Lille and Monaco), but render themselves guilty of calling it in against more modest opposition. I know Messi wasn't playing, and I don't think Neymar was either, but in theory PSG should still have had that game wrapped up well before the final whistle.

    1. I didn't actually see the penalty in question, admittedly. So I'll trust that you're right.

  2. I just noticed you copied and pasted the 6-1 score from an earlier game. Anyway, completely unrelated I'm starting to wonder if there's a chance the next Super Bowl could pit the Bills against the Cardinals? Even if early success in the regular season doesn't guarantee a trip to the big game by any means.

    1. Not impossible, although the Cardinals still feel a little suspect to me. I have a hard time believing that they will survive all the way to the Super Bowl. The Bills are looking great right now! I would hope that they not only make it to the Super Bowl, but win it, too.

  3. Yes, same here. Somehow I don't think there are too many other Jets fans who feel the same way, but like you I've never been part of the "I love my team, and absolutely hate every other team" crowd.

  4. I also agree with you regarding the Cardinals. I think the fact that they're the only unbeaten team left is a fluke. In all likelihood, the NFC representative in the SB will either be the Packers or the Buccaneers – either of which would be a snoozefest in my view, especially if they were to win.
