Bosox Knock Out Yankees In Latest Chapter For Historic Rivalry

The Yankees apparently chose the Boston Red Sox to face in the one game Wildcard playoff game.

That is a decision that they may now regret, because the Red Sox defeated the Bronx Bombers 6-2 last night at Boston’s Fenway Park.

The Red Sox started off the game by scoring two runs in the first inning, and then added another one in the third, making it 3-0.

It stayed that way until the Yankees scored in the sixth, although the Red Sox answered with another run of their own later in the bottom of that same inning.

For all intents and purposes, Boston put the game mostly out of reach by scoring twice more in the seventh inning to take a commanding 6-1 lead.

To their credit, the Yanks scored in the ninth inning, but that was as close as they would be able to get.

In the end, the Boston Red Sox defeat the New York Yankees in a revival of baseball’s oldest and most storied rivalry. It was the first time that the two franchises had met in the playoffs since the very memorable 2004 series between the two clubs, when the Red Sox became the first team in MLB history to overcome an 0-3 series deficit and win four straight to win the series. They would go on to win the World Series for the first time in 86 years later in the playoffs, ending the “Curse of the Bambino.” Since then, the Red Sox won the World Series again in 2007, in 2013, and most recently in 2018. It should be noted that the Yankees also won the World Series in 2009, which is their most recent World Series title.

The Red Sox now advance and will face the Tampa Bay Rays in a best of five series, with the Rays enjoying home field advantage in Games 1, 2, and if necessary, the deciding Game 5. That series starts tomorrow at Tropicana Field.
