PSG were handed their first loss of the season, shocked by Rennes, 2-0.
Rennes broke through in what had been a scoreless affair with a goal by forward Gaëtan Laborde in the 45th minute.
Very quickly in the second half, Rennes capitalized on yet another scoring opportunity, as midfielder Flavien Tait also found the back of the net.
Just like that, PSG found themselves in the most serious hole that they have found themselves in all season, down two goals and now, with the clock as their enemy.
They had no answers, and Rennes managed to hold on for the 2-0 upset win.
PSG still remains comfortably atop the Ligue 1 standings, with 24 points earned through nine games, six points ahead of second-place Lens and eight ahead of third place Nice and Angers.
I'm not too worried about this loss. Even the best clubs suffer the occasional loss, often against relatively modest opposition. As long as this doesn't turn out to be the beginning of a prolonged slump – and I'm optimistic that it won't be – this game is little more than a speedbump.
