2019 NBA Champions
Toronto Raptors
🏀 🏀 🏀 🏀
This was a post that I meant to publish sooner. But I then almost dropped it, given how poorly they were doing early in the series.
Then, they came storming back. Now, the Toronto Raptors have fought back and forced a Game 5, which they will host. If they manage to win - still a big if, of course - then they will have forced a deciding Game 7, which will be hosted by the 76ers in Philadelphia.
So in other words, they obviously have their work cut out for them. It certainly is not an automatic to assume that they can win this series. That said, it also is not as unthinkable as when the Sixers raced out to a 3-0 series lead.
Nevertheless, there is some optimism building around this team. They appear to be getting better. And remember, just a few short seasons ago, they have some real experience under their collective belt, having defeated the largely depleted Warriors to win the first ever NBA title in 2019. It was the first - and so far, only - time that a team outside of the United States won the NBA crown.
Indeed, there is reason to be optimistic. They have fought and made a series of what once appeared to be a bad mismatch, and given themselves a shot. And it also appears that they might build towards something special down the road.
But before all of that, let's see if they can win Game 6 and really make Philadelphia sweat in this series. Hopefully, they can do it, and maybe make history. Let's see what happens.
