Update on War in Ukraine For April 15, 2022

The capital city of Kyiv as hit with the most powerful explosions it had seen in weeks, That is because not long ago, Russia began to focus it’s war effort more to the East, particularly in the Donbas region, nearer the border with Russia itself. That was perceived as a move by Russia that amounted to an acknowledgement of how badly the war effort had been going for Russia to this point, and instead trying to focus more heavily on succeeding in the eastern regions where there are the most Russian speakers, and more Russian sympathizers.

In other news related to the situation in Ukraine, Finland has said that it is “highly likely” to join NATO. However, Russia has warned that it may be forced into nuclear deployments if Finland or Sweden were to join NATO.

The flagship Russian missile cruiser, the Moskva was sunk and is now at the bottom of the Black Sea. This is a big deal, as it was Russia’s biggest warship that was sunk. Ukraine claims that it managed to sink the ship with two cruise missiles. However, Russians are contending that it was onboard ammunition that accidentally detonated. That, though, may just be another example of Russians trying to save face and deny any seemingly obvious military setbacks, or small wins for the Ukrainian war effort.

The U.K. Ministry of Defence basically confirmed this view in an intelligence report posted earlier today:

“This incident means Russia has now suffered damage to two key naval assets since invading Ukraine, the first being Russia’s Alligator-class landing ship Saratov on 24 March,” the Ministry of Defence said.
