Our Brief Visit to Philadelphia Yesterday

Let's face it: I don't go to either of the two major cities that we are close to nearly enough. Usually, my son and I make a trip to New York City maybe two or three times per year, and it probably should be more than that. So far this year, we have taken two trips, although we plan to take another trip in the near future. We did visit Liberty State Park together recently, which is not quite a visit to New York City itself, although it is literally right across the river from it.

However, if we infrequently visit New York City, our visits to Philadelphia have been even more scarce. In fact, prior to yesterday, it had been years since our last visit. Over the years, I took him there on a few occasions. We visited a museum once, and I took him to see both the tall ships, as well as the Pope visiting in 2015. The last time that I can specifically remember taking him to Philadelphia was in 2019, when we saw The Who in concert. So it had been a few years.

Philly seems to have strong sports spirit right now, because they are enjoying an incredible time at the moment. In fact, not one, but two of their teams were in the championships yesterday. Unfortunately, both teams lost. The Philadelphia Union lost the MLS FInal to Los Angeles FC, while the Philadelphia Phillies lost Game 6, and thus the series, to the Houston Astros. Still, having two teams reach the championship round is quite impressive. Plus, the Philadelphia Eagles are the NFL's only unbeaten team at 8-0, which is the best start in franchise history. There was a lot of evidence of this sports spirit in the city yesterday.

Well yesterday, as I already posted, we went to see Les Misérables together, along with my girlfriend. Having already written about that, it seemed like a good idea to post some of the few pictures of Philadelphia that I managed to take during our admittedly brief visit. Mostly, these are of Broad Street and one of the most iconic landmarks of Philadelphia: the City Hall. Below that, I added some pictures from previous trips that my son and I took to Philadelphia, as well.

Enjoy!

One banner serves as evidence that Philadelphia had baseball fever right now, as the Phillies were playing in the World Series this year. This humorous sign plays on the notion that the Astros were caught (and subsequently punished for) cheating a few years ago, when they first won the World Series.

Thought it might be nice to share some pictures from previous visits to Philadelphia with my son. So here are some of those pictures, which include the Papal visit and address in front of Independence Hall, seeing the Tall Ships, and particularly L'Hermione, a model of the ship that Lafayette sailed on. Finally, pictures of us at The Who concert at Citizen's Field, where the Philadelphia Phillies play.
