CFL Regular Season Finale Weekend Review

This past weekend marked the last weekend of the regular season in the CFL. Since all of the teams that had qualified for the playoffs were known, and all of the seeds - and thus, the match-ups - were already clinched, it rather lacked the drama that a regular season finale otherwise might. Still, it seemed appropriate to review the action and catch up, as the CFL now shifts to the postseason for this coming month of November:

Winnipeg 24, British Columbia 9 - The Blue Bombers completed their dominant regular season with another convincing win, this time over the team with the second best record in the league, the 12-6 British Columbia Lions. Winnipeg dominated, although neither team had anything to win or lose, and were largely just trying to stay healthy before the playoffs begin.

Montreal 38, Toronto 33 - Toronto had already clinched the top spot in the East, and so this also did not mean anything. But Montreal managed to officially avoid having a losing record for the regular season with this win over the Argonauts.

Hamilton 23, Ottawa 16 - The Tiger-Cats have been surging lately, and they will enter the playoffs as one of the hottest teams, although they finished the regular season at 8-10. They will travel to Montreal to face the Alouettes next weekend. As for Ottawa, this was a rough season, as they finish the season at 4-14, tied with Edmonton for the worst record in the league.

Calgary 36, Saskatchewan 10 - The 12-6 Stampeders looked like they might challenge Winnipeg as the best team in the CFL for much of the season. Instead, they finish third, and will travel to British Columbia next weekend to take on the Lions. They blow out the Roughriders, who started with an impressive 4-1 record, but stumbled badly since, ending with a 6-12 record.
