NFL 2023 - 24 Week 16 Thursday Night Football Preview: Saints Visit Rams in Los Angeles

New Orleans Saints (7-7) at LA Rams (7-7)

This one has a lot of playoff ramifications riding on it. Both the Rams and the Saints are 7-7, and right in the thick of the action, if you will, in terms of playoff hopes. In fact, the Saints are tied for first with the Bucs in the NFC South.

New Orleans just won a big contest at home against the Giants, who had been on a three-game winning streak. But the Rams feel like they will be a tougher test. Plus, this one will be played in Los Angeles, which should benefit the Rams. That said, they have not been particularly impressive at home so far this season, and the Saints are similarly so-so on the road.

I do like the way that the Saints defense has stepped up in recent weeks. They have allowed a total of 12 points in their last two games - both blowout wins - over the Panthers and the Giants. That's not to say that they will be able to do that tonight in Los Angeles, although if they can, expect them to win.

All of that said, I think that the Rams are the slightly hotter team, and probably the better team overall. It should be a close one, but I expect them to win. Last season's title defense for the Rams was historically bad, and this team feels like they have made it a mission to at least qualify for the playoffs this year.

My pick: LA Rams
