NFL 2025 Week 5 Review

New Orleans 26, NY Giants 14 - The Giants looked good early in the second quarter when they were up 14-3. After that, however, it was all New Orleans. The G-Men looked bad on offense after that fast start, with a whopping five turnovers and 95 yards collected in penalties. Very sloppy. The Saints earn their first win of the year, as both teams walk away from this one with identical 1-4 records.. My pick: Accurate

Dallas 37, NY Jets 22 - Wrongly, I figured that the Jets would find a way to beat the 'Boys at home. Instead, they got dominated and looked lifeless. Just didn't figure on the Jets being the last winless team in the league this year, but that is what has now happened, as they drop to 0-5. The Cowboys earn their second win to improve to 2-2-1, and it is still difficult to tell just where they are headed.. My pick: Inaccurate

Minnesota 21, Cleveland 17 - Didn't realize this one was going to be played in London, or I would have picked the Vikings for the win. Honest! But Minnesota managed to hold off the Brownies and earn their third win to get back to a winning record at 3-2. Somehow, they even managed to overcome two turnovers to none by the Browns to earn this win. Cleveland falls to 1-4 on the year, and it seems like it will be another dismal season by the lake. My pick: Inaccurate

Carolina 27, Miami 24- The Dolphins were beginning to look a little better after the win over the Jets. And they looked like they would plow through the Panthers when they took a 17-0 lead. But a collapse after that sank them to 1-4 instead. Give the Panthers credit for this incredible comeback, as they now improve to 2-3 on the year.. My pick: Inaccurate

Indianapolis 40, Las Vegas 6 - On a weekend filled with shocking upsets, the Colts made sure that it would not happen to them. They hosted the Raiders, who have not looked good, and made short work of them, leaving no doubts. The Raiders went ahead with a field goal in the first quarter, but the Colts scored three touchdowns to take the game over in the second quarter and never looked back. A dominating performance by the Colts. Quarterback Daniel Jones continues to look great with his new team, completing 20 of 29 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns.. Indy improves to 4-1, while the Raiders fall to 1-4. My pick: Accurate

Denver 21, Philadelphia 17 - The Eagles were up 17-3 in the third quarter. Admittedly, I assumed that the game was pretty much over. But the Broncos got hot shortly thereafter, taking over the game and mounting what seemed like an improbable comeback to stun the Eagles and their home crowd, handing them their first loss of the season. Denver's rebuilding program really seems to have taken off, as this qualifies as their most important and impressive win in years.. My pick: Inaccurate

Houston 44, Baltimore 10 - Wow, what's wrong with the Ravens? Who could have foreseen a 1-4 start to the season? It's not that they lost this game, but that they were absolutely embarrassed, pounded at home by a 1-3 team. The Texans jumped ahead early and never looked back. Houston's offense more than doubled that of Baltimore, 417 yards to 210 overall yards by the Ravens. The Ravens also committed three turnovers, which certainly did not help. Houston has now won two games in a row to improve to 2-3, while the Ravens fall to 1-4. My pick: Wildly Inaccurate

Tampa Bay 38, Seattle 35 - A lot of offense in this back and forth contest. At points, it seemed like Tampa Bay was capable of blowing out the Seahawks. At other points, it seemed like Seattle was bound for victory. In the end, it went right down to the wire, with the Bucs clinching the win with a field goal on the final play of the game, lifting them to a 4-1 record. The Seahawks, meanwhile, fall to 3-2.. My pick: Inaccurate

Tennessee 22, Arizona 21- The Cardinals seemed to be heading towards a predictable win over one of the league's winless teams. They were up, 21-3, in the second quarter. They still owned a 21-6 lead entering the fourth quarter, and were playing at home. It should have been a win for the Cards. Yet, the Titans roared to life with a furious rally to pull off a stunning and highly impressive road comeback, scoring two touchdowns in the final quarter, and then converting a field goal on the game's last play to steal the win. On a weekend filled with surprises, this was one of the most stunning results. My pick: Inaccurate

Washington 27, LA Chargers 10 - The Chargers jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. After that, it was all Washington, as they dominated the rest of the way, rolling to a surprisingly east 27-10 road in over the Chargers, who have now dropped two in a row after a 3-0 start. The Commanders improve to 3-2, and pull within one game of Philly in the NFC East. . My pick: Inaccurate

Detroit 37, Cincinnati 24 - Detroit was absolutely pounding the Bengals 28-3 entering the fourth quarter. Then Cincy rallied a bit to make it somewhat of a game, although the Lions finally put it away by scoring the touchdown to ice it with just a few minutes left in the game. This game was really not as close as the score would indicate. . My pick: Accurate

Sunday Night Football: New England 23, Buffalo 20 - The Bills committed three turnovers and just did not play as well as they usually play. Thus, the last undefeated team left standing fell. The Pats played hard and executed well, as their rebuilding process really seems to have taken off. Buffalo had a chance to essentially take this division by the throat, but instead, the loss to the Pats means that there is only one game separating these two teams. Not a big fan of the alternative uniforms which the Bills wore on this night.  My pick: Inaccurate

Monday Night Football: Jax 31, Kansas City 28 - Wow, what a game this one was! It did not start out like that. When I checked before leaving home for work, KC was up 14-0. Admittedly, I thought (mistakenly) that this was par for the course, and that the Chiefs were on their way to a convincing win. When I checked in the parking lot of my job, the Jaguars had closed to within 14-7. A few minutes later when I checked, it was a tie ball game. I turned it on, and the Jaguars managed to get an incredible pick six when the Chiefs were threatening to score a touchdown. After that, it was a back and forth game. Admittedly, I had assumed (once again, wrongly) that KC had clinched it with that touchdown very late, putting them up by four. But Jacksonville surprised me, going down the field and getting a very late touchdown to complete the comeback and pull off another shocker. In consecutive weeks, the Jaguars beat the 49ers (on the road) and then knocked off the Chiefs. Two quality wins. Perhaps I have underestimated them. Very impressive!.   My pick: Inaccurate
