John Lodge, the singer and bassist for the rock band Moody Blues, has died. He was 82 years old.
The Moody Blues, of course, were a highly successful and influential band. Lodge was responsible for writing some of the band’s best known songs, including “Ride My See-Saw” and “I’m Just a Singer (in a Rock and Roll Band).”
On a personal level, I went to see the Moody Blues back in 1999 at what was then known as the PNC Bank Arts Center, and formerly had been known as the Garden State Arts Center. Admittedly, I do not remember that show particularly well, although I remember being excited to see them.
My favorite song from the band is, perhaps predictably, "Nights in White Satin." Funny story about that: when I was younger (like, a teen), I heard that song and, for some reason, thought that it was "Knights in White Satin," and a sad song about the Ku Klux Klan. Clearly, I was not paying too close attention to the lyrics.
Anyway, I am far from the only person who enjoyed the Moody Blues over the years. It is sad to see so many great artists aging and leaving us.
RIP, John Lodge. You will be missed.
