It is very rare for me to post blog entries about baseball. Usually, it comes right around this time of the year, during the playoffs. In fact, it tends to be deep in the playoffs. Often times after the World Series itself has been decided and a new champion crowned.
This year, however, I will change that a little bit. The Toronto Blue Jays are in the World Series again for the first time since 1993. In that year, the Blue Jays followed up on their historical first ever World Series championship in 1992 by repeating with yet another title in '93.
Few times in my life have I really ever gotten excited about baseball. There was the 1986 World Series win by the Mets, which felt exciting to me. Maybe the Yankees winning it the first time around (in modern times) back in 1996, although it started to grow repetitive, and then just tiresome, a few years later. Toronto winning the title in back-to-back years in 1992 and 1993. And the Red Sox in 2004, particularly overcoming an 0-3 series deficit to the Yankees to come back and win the American League pennant and, later, the World Series.
That's it. At least until last night.
Watching the Toronto Blue Jays capture the American League pennant was exciting. I was glad to see it. Hopefully, they can follow up and win the World Series, as well. But I am glad to at least see them back in the World Series for the first time since 1993, when I was still just a teenager.
Yeah, that's how long it's been.
Now, I know the Dodgers are going to be a tough team. So be it.
For now, I am just glad that Toronto is back in the World Series.
