Here is another local story regarding New Jersey.
No, this is not about West Milford, this time. I guess West Milford has gotten enough of my abuse for one day.
This is a story that pertains to the entire state. More specifically, it is about how we here seem to be closing in on legalizing marijuana - finally!
That is not to say that I am a pothead. Far from it, actually.
However, the facts strongly suggest that this plant is not the dangerous, evil drug that it has been portrayed as for so long.
More and more states are legalizing recreational marijuana, and New Jersey appears to be closing in on becoming possibly the 11th state in the Union to legalize it. But there is staunch opposition. At first, the opposition focused on how the plant was supposedly evil, how it was worse than cigarettes and alcohol, how it was a gateway drug.
Those arguments, however, are losing muster, as those "facts" are being disproved. In fact, marijuana is not addictive, and the ramifications are not as serious as alcohol or cigarettes. It is also a good source for paper, growing four times as fast as trees producing paper, and it also has provided comfort for people who are sick and/or in physical pain.
Of course, it is going to be banned, then. But the marijuana prohibition is being lifted, slowly but surely.
