My son and I took our usual holiday season trip to New York City yesterday. It was the first time that we had visited the city since a June concert to see Robert Plant at Forest Hills.
Perhaps the best and most exciting aspect of our trip came before we actually went into the city. The best pictures and views that we had were taken well before we got to the city, from just across the Hudson River, mostly in Hoboken, NJ. I have long believed that the best views of Manhattan are largely from the outside.
We did go to the city, though. Mostly, we focused on the Village, enjoying the Washington Arch and Union Square, which was mostly closed off. We also perused through Strand Bookstore, as well as Forbidden Planet. And we enjoyed our tradition of getting some shish kabob from street vendors while there.
As always, we took some cool pictures while there. We got several of the Manhattan skyline, and a few of the Washington Arch, with a Christmas tree underneath, and a view of the Freedom Tower in the background.
