Monday Night Football
Denver Broncos (6-8)
v.
Oakland Raiders (3-11)
Oakland 27, Denver 14
It is fitting that the last Monday Night Football Game for this season was in Oakland, and that the Raiders won. As I was growing up, the legend of the success of the Oakland Raiders on Monday Night Football was a thing of legend. For some reason, they just kept enjoying success on Mondays, adding to their mystique. A mystique that is all wrapped up with this franchise's history in Oakland. Keep in mind, they are moving to Las Vegas soon.
No one knows where exactly they will play next season.
Raiders quarterback Derek Carr completed 19 of 26 passes for 167 yards. More importantly, he maintains his historical streak of consecutive passes without an interception, which reached 325 straight passes, as he helped lift the Raiders over the Broncos. It was only the third win for head coach Jon Gruden over Denver in his career.
The Broncos seem to have just completely lost their spirit and any initiative to win since being eliminated from postseason contention.
Raiders coach Jon Gruden has this to say after the game:
"If it is the last game, it will certainly be a sad day."
"It's Christmas Eve and the end of the season, we have a lot to be thankful for. We haven't won many games, but the people that know this football team know what is going on inside here and know that there has been some really cool foundation that has been laid. I think the fans appreciate the effort, and they know we appreciate them."
That seems like a great way to close this particular review of the game out, returning to the theme of being appreciative of things on this Christmas Day!
Merry Christmas!
My pick: Inaccurate
