NFL 2018-19 MNF Week 13 Review: Eagles Dominate Washington in 2nd Half & Win 2nd Straight

Washington (6-5)

vs.

Philadelphia Eagles (5-6)

Philadelphia 28, Washington 13  - It was a tough game, and Washington's defense was holding the defending champs to a very pedestrian level of production early on, and looking like they were serious about ending their two-game skid. But the Eagles finally showed a little of why they are the defending champions. Sometimes, this season, it has been a bit challenging to keep in mind that this Philadelphia team was the same one that won the Super Bowl on that first weekend of February. But last night, they issued a reminder. For the first time this season, the Eagles managed to win two games in a row, and this was a huge, must win situation for them. They had to beat Washington to keep any realistic hopes of the playoffs - and of a chance to repeat - alive. They did it by producing a lot of yards on offense, and by dominating the time of possession. They got nearly three times as many first downs as Washington managed, and the Eagles defense clamped down on their opponents, as the game wore on, shutting them out in the second half. One strange thing is the extremely bad luck that Washington seems to be having with their quarterbacks this season. There was the injury to starter Alex Smith, who's leg injury was compared to that of Joe Theismann by some, including Theismann himself. Now, Colt McCoy fractured his fibula. So, they had to bring in veteran Mark Sanchez, who used to be the Jets starting QB. Mark Sanchez, playing only his second game with his new franchise yet suddenly thrust into the new starter role, completed 13 of 21 passes for 100 yards, with one INT. Adrian Petersen picked up 98 yards and one touchdown on nine carries. But none of that was enough to keep up with Philly's offense, led by quarterback Carson Wentz, who completed  27 of 39 passes for 306 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception. Golden Tate had a great day, reeling in seven receptions for 85 yards and one touchdown. For now, Philly moves past Washington for second place in the NFC East, with both teams one game behind Dallas, and the Eagles looking like they finally might make a serious push to reach the playoffs.  My prediction: Accurate
