Minnesota 19, Washington 9
The Vikings are one of the hottest teams in the league right now. Not surprisingly, they pulled off their fourth straight win last night by beating Washington, 19-9.
Minnesota might not have scored many points, but they racked up a lot of years, earning 434 total yards on offense, to merely 216 for Washington. They also controlled the ball for over 36 minutes, a decisive advantage in time of possession, and earned 22 first downs, to just 14 for Washington. Kirk Cousins had a solid game against his old team, completing 23 of 26 passes for 285 yards, while Dalvin Cook added 98 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries. Frankly, it was a bit surprising that Minnesota did not score more points in this game.
Cousins was not the only player who was playing against his former team. Case Keenum, a former Viking, completed 12 of 16 passes for 130 yards against his old team. And Adrian Petersen is another former Viking. He gained 76 yards on 14 carries against his old team. Dwayne Haskins came in for Keenum, but he struggled, completing 3 of 5 for 33 yards, with one INT.
The Vikings defense was very strong last night. They managed to get to Keenum for four sacks, and got that interception against Haskins. Moreover, they prevented Washington from being able to get back into the game when they really needed to.
Minnesota stayed unbeaten at home, with a 4-0 record in the dome. With the win, Minnesota improves to 6-2 on the year, and are within half a game of first place Green Bay. They also strengthen their positioning for at least a wildcard spot, with a daunting game at Kansas City approaching before they get the bye week and a chance to rest their starters and get healthy before the late season push.
Meanwhile, Washington falls to 1-7 on the season.
My pick: Accurate
