NFL 2019-20 Week 12 Thursday Night Football Preview: Clash for AFC South Supremacy

Indianapolis Colts (6-4)

at

Houston Texans (6-4)

Indianapolis (6-4) at Houston (6-4)

Okay, so, there is a lot going on right now, both in the world at large, especially with the Trump impeachment proceedings, and with my life in particular. This has been an especially busy few days, and so it is easy to forget that there is going to be a football game later today.

But there is a football game to be played later today. In fact, it is actually a big one. It features the Colts and the Texans, both of whom are tied for first in the AFC South at the moment. This game should break that tie (barring the unlikely scenario of a tie in the game itself, which would work out in favor of the Colts due to their win earlier this season over the Texans).

Let's be clear: a tie is unlikely. So, this game will likely go a long way in determining who ultimately wins the AFC South this season. In fact, it might realistically decide it in favor of whoever wins, because there just are not that many games left, which means not many opportunities for whoever loses to make up whatever ground they lose and recover enough to win the division. That does not mean that their season is over, because both of these teams have a decent shot at qualifying for the playoffs, no matter who wins or loses this particular game.

The Colts have looked shaky to me lately. Jacoby Brissett is struggling, both with his health and with his play. Indianapolis has looked at times like a serious title contender this season, and at other times, they have looked like a team that could lose any given game, even to a weak opponent. Just look at how they lost to the Dolphins, and that was at Indianapolis!

Of course, the Texans are the same way. At times, they look like serious contenders. Like the Colts, they went to Kansas City and beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead! But last weekend, they were humiliated by the Ravens. That they lost is not surprising. But that they were completely dominated and could not even make a game of it at all is not a good sign.

So, either team could prove solid enough to win, yet also unsteady enough to lose. That makes this more or less a toss up.

However, I like the Texans at home. They clearly want to erase those memories of being absolutely blown out at Baltimore, and this would be a huge game, and go a long way towards doing exactly that. I will predict the home team to come out on top, although this could go right to the end of the fourth quarter, and possibly even be decided on the game's final play.

My prediction: Houston
