Thursday Night Football Review: 49ers Hang on & Beat Cardinals to Remain Unbeaten

San Francisco 49ers 28

Arizona Cardinals 25

San Francisco 28, Arizona 25

Once again, the 49ers were looking simply overwhelming early in the game, and it looked like it was going to be another blowout in their favor.

But then, the Cardinals suddenly came alive, and they fought hard to make a game of it.

Ultimately, however, San Francisco was able to just hang on enough to earn - perhaps escape might be a better term - with a win to remain as one of two undefeated teams left in the NFL, the other being the defending Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots.

The 49ers enjoyed a decisive advantage in time of possession, holding onto the football for 34:31, compared with just 25:29 for the Cardinals. Otherwise, statistically, these two teams were more or less even in most other categories.  The 49ers gained 411 yards to 357 for Arizona.

Jimmy Garoppolo had a great day for SF, completing 28 of 37 passes for 317 yards and four touchdowns. His favorite target was Emmanuel Sanders, who gained 112 yards on seven receptions. Matt Breida added 78 yards on 15 carries.

In a losing cause for Arizona, Kyler Murray completed 17 of 24 for 241 yards, with two touchdown passes. Andy Isabella led all receivers with 88 yards, even though all of that came on just one catch. Kenyan Drake added 110 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries.

With the win, the Niners stay unbeaten and raise their record to 8-0. The loss drops Arizona down to a record of 3-4-1 on the year.

My prediction: Accurate
