Today, I started looking a bit into the song "Mother" by Pink Floyd, off of my personal favorite Floyd Album, "The Wall."
It is a fascinating song, with the best known version from the studio album largely being done acoustically. Yet this Youtube video shows a different version. This one was from the movie version of "The Wall," back in the very early 80's. It is a very different version than the album, and thus, it feels almost radically different than the album version.
The lyrics are arresting. It is a sort of conversation between Pink and his mother, only with the son filling in the blanks of what his mother actually passed onto him - particularly her fears.
Fascinating stuff, and one of the main things I enjoyed about an album that really captivated me for a long, long time. In fact, it was probably the album I listened to the most, bar none, in late 1990 and much of 1991, at least through that summer.
In any case, below is a link to an article that discusses it a bit more, as well as the video version of the song found in the movie.
Enjoy!
