Here was yet another blog entry, with a link to an article, which I expected to write much, much sooner than now.
Better late than never, in any case.
Below is a link to a fascinating piece about some predictions made for the year 2023 a full century ago. It is rather amazing hos accurate some of the stuff is, although not everything wound up coming true. In some respects, rather typically, many predictions of where we would be at this point from way back when reveals mostly that they gave us too much credit. That we are not nearly as advanced as it was assumed we would be over the decades. Even as recently as the 1980's, in movies like "Back to the Future," they seemed to have higher expectations of were we would be, with flying cars and skateboards which float on air (hoverboards).
Cell phones are another aspect of our everyday lives now in 2023 which it would be difficult for people in past generations to imagine, even while it might be difficult for us to imagine life without our cell phones. But beyond the impressive technology, one thing that I suspect is much less impressive is what we use some of that incredible technology for. Namely, taking countless selfies and posting pictures of what we are eating for dinner, and trolling people and making a point of trying to annoy others. We seem to show both the tremendous possibilities for humanity, while simultaneously (and paradoxically) revealing our limitations at the same time
Pretty interesting stuff. Take a look:
