Ran into this a few days ago, and thought it was well worth sharing here.
Some of the tips I actually knew, such as contacting your embassy if you find yourself in a foreign country and in need of serious help, or using a needle and a leaf as a compass (from the movie "The Edge"). Also, making four right turns, or making a bunch of turns in quick succession and/or heading towards the police station and away from home was something that I actually tried to use once, when it seemed that somebody was following for just a little too long.
There are others, however, that were definitely new on me, such burning a tire if the car breaks down in a remote area, or marking trees with a stick or charcoal, which actually seemed like a very good idea, actually. Also, starting a fire with chips also was an idea which I never had heard of, although admittedly, I rarely really ever eat chips, let alone bring them hiking or camping with me.
In any case, this seemed worth sharing, and so here it is. See if there are not some new things for you, as well.
