Kid Rock has become, for better or worse, identified with what passes for modern American conservative values. Although not overtly or strictly "conservative" in the manner which many self-identified conservatives and Republicans would define it as, he nevertheless is almost like another form of Donald Trump, who seems to me somehow, and rather paradoxically, both anti-political (especially in the early years of his political rise) as well as intensely political. And Trump now has become a champion for American conservatives.
Now, I am not predicting that Kid Rock will follow in his footsteps. However, the current political climate in the United States frankly makes this otherwise seemingly laughable notion look, in fact, like a distinct possibility. I would not be totally surprised if, indeed, Kid Rock someday becomes a Senator, or even occupies the Oval Office. Maybe that sounds ridiculous, and I wish that I could feel that it is totally out of the question. Except, we seem to be living in strange times, and such a scenario feels a lot more like a realistic possibility than it did years ago. I only wish that I were joking about that.
In any case, this is a video narrated by punk icon Jello Biafra, where he explains some things about Kid Rock which you might not have known. Admittedly, much of it was new for me. Of course, I am not a big fan of Kid Rock. There was a kind of redneck quality and overly proud crassness to his approach that never appealed to me. Still, we might want to get to know more about guys like Kid Rock, because again, these days, all of this feels like it should all be a joke, only it isn't. I seriously think that he might decide to make a serious run. After all, when he made his "joke" run for the Senate, he received an endorsement from former New York Governor George Pataki, who claimed that Kid Rock was exactly what the Republican party needed. Yikes! Granted, Kid Rock decided not to actually run, and made it appear like he was never serious. Still, let's stop kidding ourselves. Trump danced around the possibility of running for major office - particularly the presidency - for years. He seemed like a joke to many for a long time, as well. Then, his presidency became an unfortunate, even a tragic, reality. So let's start taking this kind of thing a little more seriously, and actually learn from recent history.
