One of the bands whom I have listened to for a very long time, and ranked among my own personal cult favorites, enjoyed a huge landmark occasion today.
It was 35 years ago today, on May 3, 1988, that Living Colour released their debut album "Vivid." It truly exploded onto the music scene, and ultimately went double platinum. In particular, the song "Cult of Personality" became one of the most iconic rock anthems of it's day. There were other songs that became hits from that album, particularly "Open Letter (to a Landlord).
At the time, I was in middle school, and really got into that album sometime once I got into high school. They were definitely one of my favorite bands at that point, and have remained a band that I always took a particular interest in, somewhat similarly to Voivod, even though neither of those two bands are exactly dominating the spotlight since.
Still, it was a tremendous album, and it seemed fitting today to mark this momentous occasion. Some have argued that "Vivid" was one of the greatest albums of the eighties and, frankly, I would concur. A great rock band that put out a very memorable album that is rightly being remembered today, even after 35 years!
