I am trying not to write much about King Con Don anymore. Yes, he was once president, and still might have a real chance at reaching the White House again. But I am beyond sick and tired of hearing about him and hearing from him. Sick of his voice, his stupidity, and frankly, those loyal followers who are the complete opposite, and never tire of his bullshit.
But over the weekend, Trump suggested that the United States should default on it's debt. Currently, the United States owes a staggering $31.4 trillion, and there is a political battle brewing in Washington - not for the first time - about raising the debt ceiling. Trump suggested that if Democrats don't give in to Republican demands to severely curtail the budget, then we should go ahead and take the plunge and default.
This is what passes for "genius" among Trump supporters. After all, didn't Trump get away with declaring bankruptcy numerous times? So it only follows logically that he would assume that this would work on a national level.
However, the United States has clearly been slipping from it's once stellar and seemingly untouchable status as the world's leading superpower. We have seen one steep decline and hits that have seriously detracted from our standing before the world, not the least of which was electing King Con Don into the Oval Office in the first place. Defaulting on our debt feels like it would be another huge step downwards, a step in the wrong direction. Of course, that is what Trump specializes in, that and then blaming others for the inevitably horrific results.
Not sure if this qualifies as the "stupidest thing ever" that Trump has said. After all, that man has a whole library worth of stupid words and moments and beliefs that he has never failed to share with us in a way too public fashion. But I sincerely hope that this idea does not gain traction, although my fear is that it will.
