The Lion of Judah Emblem of the Ethiopian Empire
A volcano in Ethiopia that had been dormant for some 12,000 years suddenly erupted on Sunday.
Indeed, the Hayli Gubbi erupted, sending plumes of ash thousands of meters into the atmosphere. I heard reports that it went up somewhere between eight to nine miles up in the atmosphere, and could easily be seen from space.
The plume of ash reached across to the Arabian peninsula and beyond, disrupting flights in the region, and even as far away as southern Asia. There are reports that ash reached Delhi in India, which is something like 4,700 kilometers (a bit shy of 3,000 miles) away.
Some fascinating stuff.
