New England Patriots 27, New York Jets 14
First of all, let me talk about the very first thing that I noticed when watching clips of last night's game, and that was the uniforms. While I am glad that the Jets have reverted back to the vintage helmet and uniform appearance which they had during the 1980's, the Patriots uniforms looked new. To my knowledge, they never worse those particular uniforms before.
And they were ugly. From a distance, I thought that they might be the Chargers, but the color was all wrong. Frankly, it looked like a dulled down version of the Chargers uniform. But of course I knew that it was the Patriots. Also, everyone knows by now that these new alternate uniforms that every team in seemingly every sport are trying out sure look like shameless money grabs.
As if the NFL, which apparently pays no taxes, needs to rake in still more profits.
Truth be told, those uniforms for the Patriots were boring. Once I took a closer look to see them, I sighed. Indeed, my first thought was how tired I am, personally, of all the uniform variations. One or two can be fine, possibly. Under the right circumstances. But when teams reveal yet new alternate uniforms seemingly every season, it gets old really fast. Again, I don't see anything of interest. Only a attempt to get fans to spend more money on fan gear.
Stop with that nonsense.
Anyway, now on with the actual game.
The Jets did prove tough. Not a surprise, since they have played well in recent weeks. Also, they are in the same division as the Patriots, so there is that degree of familiarity.
Yet, New England managed to do just enough. It was not a beautiful win. Not likely high light reel kind of material.
Still, the most important thing is that the Patriots, who currently own an NFL best eight-game winning streak, managed to hold on and win once again.
Gang Green had one of the worst rated offenses, while the Pats defense ranks as a relatively elite unit. So perhaps it was inevitable that the Pats would get the Jets into trouble with time running out in the fourth quarter. New England managed to build a comfortable 27-14 lead late in the fourth quarter, with the Jets needing an absolute miracle to pull off a win.
Ultimately, the Jets were not able to do much of anything. They hung onto the ball and even moved it down the field a bit. The Patriots defense - mostly focused on preventing any big score and killing the clock, allowed them that much. Yet that New England defense tightened up when they had to, not allowing any scores, as it turns out.
So the Patriots improve to 9-2 - currently the best record in the league - with their eighth straight win. They snap the modest two-game winning streak that the Jets had managed to muster, dropping their overall record to 2-8.
My pick: Accurate
