NFL 2025 Week 12 Review

Baltimore 23, NY Jets 10 -  The Ravens have come all the way back from a seemingly disastrous 1-5 start to first place in the AFC North, at least for now. They beat the Jets convincingly and, coupled with Pittsburgh losing, now enjoy first place in the AFC North. There is still a long way to go this season, but Baltimore looks like one of the hottest teams in the league right now. Probably the type of team that nobody wants to see on the field. They improve to 6-5, while Gang Green falls to 2-9. My pick: Baltimore

Detroit 34, NY Giants 27 (OT) - So the Giants have earned a reputation for being a team that continually and consistently blows large leads late in a game. They blew a 26-8 lead with just under 5 ½ minutes left in the game at Denver. They blew a 10-point lead with just under four minutes left against Chicago. And they blew a 27-17 lead this week against the Lions. Indeed, the G-Men seem to find new and interesting, innovative ways to lose each week, week after week. Here was yet another case in point, as the G-Men again predictably snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. The Giants fall to 2-10 with their sixth straight loss (it feels a lot longer), while the Lions improve to 7-4 on the year. My pick: Accurate

Green Bay 23, Minnesota 6 -  No surprise here whatsoever, as the Pack earned a predictable win over the Vikings. Green Bay basically dominated this game. The Vikings never got in the end zone, and they just could not contain the Packers on offense, either, as they fall to 4-7 and out of the playoff picture. They are far and away the worst team in the NFC North right now. Meanwhile, Green Bay improves to 7-3-1, half a game behind Chicago for first and half a game ahead of third-place Detroit.. My pick: Accurate

Kansas City 23, Indianapolis 20 (OT) - This game felt predictable. For a while, Indy was leading in such a way that I held out hope that they might actually earn the win. But the Chiefs are champs for a reason, and they found a way. Somehow, they squeak out another unlikely win, which is what elite teams of their stature tend to do. It made this end result feel predictable, even though the Colts surely felt that they were playing well enough to win almost right to the end. But their offense just completely stalled and were rendered ineffective towards the end of the game. With the loss, the Colts slip to 8-3, still two up on Houston in the AFC South at the moment. As for the Chiefs, they improve to 6-5, and likely are heading to the playoffs.. My pick: Accurate

Chicago 31, Pittsburgh 28 - The Steelers had some chances. But it was Da Bears who ultimately survive to win their fourth straight. They improve to 8-3 and stay ahead of the Pack and the Lions in the NFC North. Meanwhile, the Steelers drop their fourth in a span of six games to fall to 6-5. Now, they find themselves tied with the Ravens in the AFC North for the first time all season after once owning a fairly massive lead over Baltimore. My pick: Accurate

Seattle 30, Tennessee 24 - The Seahawks won this game in a more dominant fashion than the final score might suggest. Indeed, Seattle took control early and did everything that they had to do in order to secure a win to stay hot. The Titans did rally and made it somewhat closer, or at least more respectable. In the end, the better team won, and convincingly. Seattle improves to 8-3 on the season, while Tennessee falls to 1-10, the worst record in the league at the moment. My pick: Accurate

New England 26, Cincinnati 20 - The Patriots have now won nine in a row. More and more, they feel reminiscent of the old Patriots under the Belichick/Brady era. They did not obliterate the Bengals, did not win in blowout fashion. Yet, they still managed to win to improve to 10-2, the best overall record in the league right now. Meanwhile, the Bengals drop their fourth straight to fall to 3-8, now tied with the Browns for worst in the AFC North.  My pick: Accurate

Jacksonville 27, Arizona 24 - The Jaguars had to win this one, and they did it. It was a back and forth kind of game and remained tight throughout. Fittingly, it was decided in overtime. The Jaguars did just enough, getting a field goal to clinch the win their second straight and improve to 7-4 on the year. The Cardinals, meanwhile, fall to 3-8. My pick: Accurate

Cleveland 24, Las Vegas 10 - Another game which went very much like most people would have expected. The Browns have certainly had their struggles this year, but they absolutely feel like a better overall team than the hapless Raiders. They earned a solid and convincing win on the road to improve to 3-8, while the Raiders fall to 2-9 on the year. My pick: Accurate

Atlanta 24, New Orleans 10 - The Falcons predictably win a game against one of the very worst teams in the league at this point. Atlanta improves to 4-7 while the Saints fall to 2-9. My pick: Accurate

Dallas 24, Philadelphia 21 - When my girlfriend and I left for the movies (we saw Nuremberg) on Sunday evening, the Eagles were completely dominating this one, 21-0. I figured that it was going to be another disastrous day for Dallas, and that their season was assuredly over. Imagine my surprise when I heard that they tied their largest ever margin to come back and win from. They stun the Eagles, 24-21, and now you have to wonder about some of the narrow recent wins by the Eagles, where it felt that they got lucky and sometimes survived their own bad decisions. Philly falls to 8-3, while Big D improves to 5-5-1. My pick: Inaccurate

Sunday Night Football: LA Rams 34, Tampa Bay 7 - This was a bit more lopsided than I expected. Still, most people would have expected a convincing win by the Rams, and that is what this was. The Bucs simply could not get anything going on offense, while their defense was stretched thing by the Rams offense. The Rams improve to 9-2 and, at least for now, stand alone atop the NFC with the best overall record in the conference. The Bucs, meanwhile, fall to 6-5. My pick Accurate

Monday Night Football: San Francisco 20, Carolina 9 - This one pretty much went as most people likely would have expected it to go. The 49ers did not put on a clinic on offense, but they scored plenty enough that the Niners solid defensive effort stood and was easily enough. The 49ers remain relevant in the NFC West and improve to 8-4, while the Panthers fall to 6-6.. My pick: Accurate
