A Visit to Elfreth's Alley in Philadelphia

Yesterday, I was in Philly for the Sarah McLachlan concert.

While I intended to publish a review of that particular show today, I just ran out of time.

So instead, I thought it might be worth it to post these pictures of Elfreth's Alley in Philadelphia. This is the nation's oldest continually inhabited street. Take a look at these pictures. It looks like a scene from an American city during the colonial era, or from around the time of the Revolutionary War. Red brick homes on both sides of a narrow alley, clearly from before there were cars.

Frankly, it looks almost like an illustration of the 19th or even the late 18th century American city come to life. Hell, it would not look out of place in some old European cities, for that matter. Particularly somewhere in Britain, perhaps a London alley during the time of Jack the Ripper.

Always wanted to visit it, yet somehow had never made it there despite numerous visits to the City of Brotherly Love. Finally managed to do it during yesterday's visit.

Below are the pictures.

Enjoy.
