NFL 2025 Week 12 Thursday Night Football Review: Texans Edge Out Bills

Houston Texans 23, Buffalo Bills 19

It finally happened for the Texans. After working hard all season to recover from an 0-3 start and breaking even last weekend, they won a big showdown against a tough, playoff caliber team to finally get to a winning record. This is what everyone expected, of course. But they kind of did it the hard way, didn't they? However, at least they did it. And they had to survive a tough test against the Bills, another team that many people had and have high expectations for this season. Like the Texans, they have not quite met all of those high expectations. They seem to lose games at inopportune times. At one point, they held a two-game lead over the Patriots for the AFC East race. Now, they are in serious danger of falling two games behind New England in the divisional race after this loss. However that was more of the Texans doing, with their tough defense. Frankly, this was the first time that I really noticed how tough and stingy that Houston defense has been this season. They always seemed like a solid team, defensively, but they were really, really good. It feels like this team could be made for the playoffs. Nobody will want to face them in the playoffs, assuming that they qualify. Frankly, my own suspicion is that they might still have a chance to recover strongly enough to win the AFC South title, since I am still a bit suspicious of the Colts. So this was a huge win and a big boost to their confidence. A very solid win that puts the Texans in the driver's seat for a playoff run, and possibly to catch the Colts for the division title. As for Buffalo, this was a loss, but they played well and came close. They are not far from where they want to be, but continually losing important games could shake their confidence. This is the kind of game that they will need to win to get some of their old swagger back.

My pick: Accurate
