Neil Peart, the drummer and primary lyricist for legendary Canadian rock band Rush, has died. He was 67 years old.
Peart had been fighting brain cancer for many years. The cost of the fight seems to have been a bit too much, unfortunately.
As the legendary drummer for a band that was hugely popular and enormously influential, Peart made his mark on music. I remember just how many fans - particularly aspiring musicians - absolutely loved Rush, and many of them praised Peart's drumming abilities and techniques.
"It is with broken hearts and the deepest sadness that we must share the terrible news that on Tuesday our friend, soul brother and bandmate of over 45 years, Neil, has lost his incredibly brave three-and-a-half-year battle with brain cancer," his bandmates said in a statement.
They also called for privacy for Peart's family and urged fans wanting to express their condolences to make a donation in his name to a cancer research group or charity of their choice.
"Rest in peace, brother."
He will be missed.
