Larry Kudlow was an economic advisor, and thus a supporter, to Donald Trump during the White House years.
Obviously, then, he was a supporter and even an admirer of Trump.
However, Kudlow said in a recent interview aired on FOX News that he does not understand what Trump is doing anymore, that he has lost his way. Furthermore, he suggests that Trump is losing support on all sides as a result of his recent behavior.
Here is some of what Kudlow had to say during that interview (see link to article below for more details specifically):
"I don't understand what our former boss is doing," Kudlow said, speaking with Trump's former counselor Kellyanne Conway.
"I love the guy, but I do not understand Kanye West, hanging out with white nationalists, hanging out with anti-Semitic people, talking about ending the Constitution or postponing the Constitution," he said.
"I don't get it, I don't understand why he's saying it, and if he says it why hasn't he, you know, apologised for it or corrected the record or something, because he's losing support left and right, I hear it everywhere."
My question to Mr. Kudlow, if I ever would get the chance to ask him, is what he didn't see before the "recent" behavior of Trump's that seems so unhinged. Was Trump a model of stability when he constantly, incessantly spoke of his own greatness and declared himself a "very stable genius?" Was it normal for a sitting president to have such difficulty condemning Nazis and white supremacists, only doing so when the criticism reached a fever pitch? Was it normal or stable when Trump - again, as the sitting president - put up a video of one of his supporters shouting "white power?" Does it seem presidential to sent unhinged tweets at all hours of the night, or to never seemingly have anything better to do as president than to try and attack any and all who displeased him - obviously including, but not necessarily limited to, critics of Trump - with a torrent of ridiculous tweets? Did you really believe that the assembled leaders of the world were laughing along with Trump after he mistook his speech before the United Nations for a Trump rally?
At what point, exactly, did you finally notice that Trump's behavior just seems a little off, perhaps a little bit unhinged? None of the stuff that I just mentioned - to say nothing of the volumes of stuff that he said and did which was not mentioned here - tipped him off that there might just be something wrong with this incredibly needy, petty spoiled man-child?
If hosting a dinner with infamous anti-Semite Kanye (or Ye) West and a known white supremacist now seems peculiar and not a sign of stability according to Kudlow, how did he fail to notice his former boss receiving the endorsement of known white supremacists organizations, including the Ku Klux Klan, who were very pumped up when Trump won the election, feeling that now, they had a man who championed their values? How was he not alarmed when Trump referred to Mexicans in the United States as criminals and rapists, or that he called for a Muslim registry, or that he singled out his "African American" supporter at one of his rallies, or that he dismissed literally dozens of countries in Africa and Central America as "shithole nations?"
As far as Trump now having outright advocated suspending the Constitution so that he could simply return back to power, was Kudlow okay with Trump "joking" about being "president for life?" Did he really believed that Trump thought that this was funny, this man who seems to have frankly no sense of humor at all? Or how he declared that his supporters might demand that he serve a third term, even well before the election in which he would try and win a second term (which obviously was not guaranteed)?
If that is the case, if he is only noticing it right now, all I can say in response is one word: Wow.
