In what feels like Part 2 of today's segment about stopping fairly serious fascism takeover attempts in certain countries this week, former Peruvian President Pedro Castillo was arrested and impeached by Congress there. He had attempted to dissolve Congress and install an emergency government. This was described by Peru’s Ombudsman as an “attempted coup d’état.”
Castillo had been facing an impeachment vote. Needless to say, his attempts to take over the government did not win him any real support in Congress.
Vice-President Dina Boluarte now steps in and has become the new president. She also is Peru's first ever female president.
