Astronaut Mark Vande Hei spent almost one full year aboard the International Space Station (ISS), but he is coming back to Earth in the very near future.
However, after spending so much time above the Earth - quite literally in his case - he is coming back with a very changed perspective on things.
When you really think about it, this is not actually all that surprising. How could he not have a changed perspective on the Earth and all of the drama that we create for ourselves. I doubt that he had to deal with things that we take for granted down here, including fever pitch political discussions on the radio and/or television and/or social media, and international borders (which of course cannot be seen from space), or having to deal with everyday problems like the stress of traffic during commutes, or paying bills, or other everyday concerns that, again, we have grown so used to that we take them for granted. His perspective would almost have to change in the absence of such things for such a long duration like that, even if they are replaced by other problems and realities.
