The new Avatar movie is coming out soon. Just a couple of days, in fact, as I understand it. Granted, it took a long time - well over a decade - for the follow-up to the 2009 blockbuster. But it is here now, and many of us are getting excited about it!
Yes, I not only plan on seeing it, but taking my son to see it, as well. Also, to probably try and watch the original movie together, also. It is a wonderful movie, regardless of who or how many detract from it. I had a girlfriend who could not stand James Cameron, and felt that his ego seriously detracted from her ability to appreciate his movies. And maybe he does have a huge ego, who knows? But Avatar was a wonderful movie, and one probably necessary for this modern age. Like some of the best movie franchises of the past, it combines the complexities of our modern existence with simpler themes of a more innocent past. It borrows heavily from history - obviously particularly colonialism and the various, tragic chapters of genocides from when Europeans took over "new" lands and basically forcibly removed aboriginal people who had previously lived there - while giving it a new twist. All of this is a very modern setting. And there is real wisdom to be seen in the movie. It is highly entertaining, yet it also can teach us something.
Just fantastic!
Now, I do not believe that I ever reviewed the original Avatar movie. And while this video does not compensate for it, nor is it a serious review, it seemed appropriate nevertheless to add this video. These tend to be very funny, and it seemed like a good idea to share this particular video now, with the big new Avatar movie coming out very soon.
Enjoy!
