2024 NBA Finals Game 3 Review: Celtics Remain Perfect on Road This Postseason To Take 3-0 Series Lead

2024 NBA Playoff Update

2024 NBA Finals Game 2 - Boston Celtics 106 - Dallas Mavericks 99

While the last two games of this year's NBA Finals saw Dallas manage to be competitive, after getting blown out in Game 1, it just seems that they cannot actually seal the deal for a win. Boston appears to be a bit too much for them apparently, to have too many weapons.

To be sure, the Celtics were dominating this game by building up a lead of more thna 20 points at one point. Yet the Mavericks managed to battle back and make a real game of it, managing to pull within two points in the final minutes.

Still, it was the Celtics who had the answers at he end, doing just enogh of the right things to keep the lead and quiet th sutnned crowd. Sure enough, the Celtics showed the killer instinct that they have seemed to have all season long, particularly this postseason.

This was Boston's tenth straight postseason win. They have not lost a game since the Cavaliers managed to take Game 2 in Boston in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Since then, the Celtics managed to win the final three games of that series to close out Cleveland, then swept the Indiana Pacers, and have now taken a 3-0 series lead against the seemingly overwhelmed Dallas Mavericks.

The Celtics have been especially impressive on the road so far this postseason. This was their eighth road game of these playoffs, and they now sport a perfect 8-0 record in road games. The Mavericks will have at least one last chance to try and change that and hand the Celtics their first loss on the road, although things sure look and feel hopeless for them right now, in terms of winning this series and keeping their hopes for an NBA title intact.

Jayson Tatum finally had a very solid day, scoring 31 points. Jaylen Brown was right behind him with 30 points. Really, he is looking like the leading candidate to win the NBA MVP award for this series.

Kyrie Irving finally had a great game for the Mavs, scoring 35 points, while Luka Dončić scored 27. But it just was not enough.

Apparently, this is the first time that the fabled Boston Celtics franchise has managed to take a 3-0 series lead in an NBA Finals series since all the way back in 1959. How long ago was that? Well, consider that they took tat 3-0 series lead against the Minneapolis Lakers.

Yeah, that gives you an idea of how long ago it was. Hard to believe, really, since the Celtics are one of the most storied franchises in all of sports, and have won many NBA title since then. But yes, this is the first time since then that they have taken such a commanding 3-0 lead in an NBA Finals.

Unless Dallas manages to do something significant, and very quickly, this series might be over before it ever really heated up. It sure seems to have been missing any real drama or suspense, other than the rallies which the Mavericks managed late in the last two games, but which never really materialized into much more than a minor scare for Boston.
