Trying to stay atop what happens in the CFL this season more consistently than I managed to do it last season. This was opening weekend of CFL action.
So here goes:
Friday Night - Calgary 32, Hamilton 24 - The Stampeders looked like they might dominate the Tiger-Cats there for a while. In the end, however, this proved to be a decently competitive game. Still, Calgary did hang on, to start off on the right foot this season with a win and, for now, jumping out ahead of Winnipeg, who lost their first game the day before to the defending champion Alouettes, in the West Division. One side no for Hamilton: they just signed Taulia Tagovailoa, brother of star Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. So that should be kind of interesting to see.
Saturday - Saskatchewan 29, Edmonton 21 - A The Roughriders got some help from Edmonton Elks in this one, and managed to pull off a win that most people were not expecting them to pull off. By virtue of this win, Saskatchewan manage to start off the season 1-0, and thus for now are tied with Calgary atop the West Division.
Toronto 35, British Columbia 27 - The Argonauts were the defending champions last season, but suffered a stunning loss at home in the playoffs, which they must have felt robbed them of a chance to repeat as CFL champions. Trying to bounce back from that disappointment, the Argos managed to take care of business in the season opener, holding off the Lions to earn a solid win. This places the Argos tied for first in the East Division with the defending champion Alouettes, the team that managed to hand them the shocking defeat in last year's East Final.
