R.E.M. Reunites For One Night (& Apparently, One Night Only)

Recently, noted rock band R.E.M. reunited, albeit for only one single night. They performed together, and also did an interview together (which I admittedly did not include in this particular blog entry). 

So at least for the time being, there is a lot to chew on for fans of the band. That is not insignificant, given that they broke up more than a decade and a half ago. They did not get back together in any form, to my knowledge, until very recently. 

They always were an interesting band. I remember that for some reason, I left my copy of "Automatic For the People"around at one point. My father listened to it, and later told me that he had been impressed by their "smart music." There was only one other album that he did that with, and that was a bootleg copy of some Pearl Jam stuff from their early days, which he was equally impressed with. So it seemed like kind of a big deal that he would like those two artists, since that certainly was not the case with all of the music that I listened to and/or grew up with.

In any case, it just seemed worth sharing this news. So that said, below are two links to R.E.M. related articles, including the band's own words on why this does not mark some kind of permanent reunion. Personally, I felt that they showed a lot of humility, and a refreshing resistance simply to cash in on past success. 

Then again, I would expect nothing less from this particular band.
