A draft opinion obtained by Politico has apparently shown that the Supreme Court is leaning in favor of reversing the Roe v. Wade decision that made abortions legal across the land. Roe v. Wade, of course, was one of the most famous and consequential court cases in American history, and it has stood for nearly half a century.
However, a Supreme Court that was packed with three justices from the Trump years serves as further evidence that elections have consequences. One of Trump's biggest promises was to reverse Roe v. Wade, and that is apparently what a very right-leaning court is preparing to do.
The decision is not yet official. This story is still just a scoop by Politico, and a draft opinion is not yet a final commitment by the Supreme Court.
If, on the other hand, this is an indication of what the Supreme Court will do, then it likely will make abortion illegal in up to 22 states. This may become a reality despite polls consistently showing that a clear majority of Americans favor keeping abortion legal.
