The Beatles Cartoon, Including Full I'm A Loser Episode (Youtube Video)

It was on this day (technically yesterday now as I write this) - Saturday 25 September 1965 - that the Beatles' cartoon series began airing in the United States. The show ran on the ABC network, and came on Saturday mornings at 10:30 am until 1968. Then, it moved to Sunday mornings. Every episode was named after a Beatles song, and the stories were themed on the lyrics of the song being focused on. In all, there were 39 episodes aired over the course of the three years that the show ran for. As I understand it, this was the first cartoon depicting actual living people. Once again, the Beatles seemed to make history in all sorts of different ways. It is rather mind-boggling to unearth all of these things as you find them out.

The members of the Fab Four were not actually directly involved in the project.

As I understand it, according to a recent Facebook posting by April Velasco on THE COMPLETE BEATLES Facebook page that focused on one episode (see the video, which is the entirety of the I'm a Loser episode) here are some more details on the cartoon series:

The Beatles themselves were not directly involved in the production, which was created by Al Brodax and Sylban Buck, and produced by King Features Syndicate. American actor Paul Frees provided the voices for John Lennon and George Harrison, while British actor Lance Percival did the same for Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.

Al Brodax, who produced the series, was later the producer and co-writer of the 1968 animated film Yellow Submarine. The film’s director, George Dunning, also worked on the cartoon series.

Fascinating stuff!

Enjoy!
