NFL Week 2 Thursday Night Football Review: Chiefs Edge Chargers

 Los Angeles Chargers (1-0)

Kansas City Chiefs (1-0)

Kansas City Chiefs 27, LA Chargers 24

It was a close win for KC, but a win is a win.

Yet, it felt like the Chargers actually were the better team, like they had the Chiefs on the ropes for much of the game. There were some controversial calls, particularly a seeming interception that was overturned.

Still, the Chargers appeared to be in position to win this one. They sere the ones who controlled the tempo of the game most of the way. At least, that was, until a historical pick six. Yes, Jaylen Watson had a rather unbelievable 99-yard interception returned for a touchdown. It ended a serious Chargers scoring threat and gave KC the late lead. Also, it completely changed the momentum of the game, as it seemed like Kansas City was in position to win from that point onwards.

Sure enough, the Chiefs hung on for the win, although Justin Herbert, the Chargers quarterback, played through pain after a rib injury. And he played well, orchestrating a late touchdown drive to pull the Chargers within three.

However, the comeback effort fell just short, and KC was able to ice the win. The Chiefs stay hot in September, something that they have done particularly since Patrick Mahomes became their starting quarterback early in 2018. A solid win for them, as they improve to 2-0 on the year. As for the Chargers, this was a disappointing loss for a team that had put together a really solid effort and a serious attempt at upsetting the Chiefs at Arrowhead, which is not easy to do. The Chargers now fall to 1-1 on the year, although they are probably more worried about how Herbert will be at this moment.

My pick: Accurate
