NFL New York Teams 2022-23 Week 2 Review

Earlier this week, I wrote quick reviews of the two games involving the New York teams, the Giants and the Jets. Both of them won exciting games this weekend. The Giants outlasted the Panthers in a tough, mostly defensive, low-scoring game. And the Jets overcame a 13-point deficit with less than two minutes left in the game to win in miraculous fashion.

Meant to review all games from this past weekend, but never quite got around to it. So here, at least, is my review of the two games involving the Giants and Jets. 

NY Giants 19, Carolina 16 – Well, this was an exciting game! And who knew that the G-Men could begin this season with two wins after their first two games? As a fan of Big Blue, it makes me happy, but it is surprising as well. To be sure, it was a tough game, and the Panthers really tested the Giants, right to the end. But the G-Men were able to hang on for the win, and earned their first 2-0 start since the 2016 season. Don’t get me wrong: I am not making Super Bowl reservations, or even counting on a playoff appearance, just yet. Nevertheless, it is refreshing to see the Giants actually start a season off so impressively! My pick: Accurate 

NY Jets 31, Cleveland 30 – Now this result was unexpected. I thought that the Browns would take care of business better than that. After all, Cleveland had a real shot at starting the season off at 2-0. With the Jets coming to town, admittedly, I fully expected the Browns to be able to pull this one off. Somehow, though, they did not do it. It seemed that they had iced the win with about two minutes left. Leave it to the Browns, however, to have a touchdown that they scored actually cost them the game. How did that happen? Nick Chubbs earned the first down with less than two minutes left and, had he fallen on the ball, it would have given the Browns a fresh set of downs, and a chance to kill the clock. The Jets would not have been able to do anything with it. Instead, he plowed in for the touchdown, and the extra point was missed. That gave Cleveland a 30-17 lead. Still, the game seemed pretty well secured. Except that it wasn’t, because the Jets scored two quick touchdown in those final two minutes. They scored the first one very quickly, then  recovered the onside kick, and scored again. Unlike the Browns, the PAT attempt was good both times, giving the Jets the stunning 31-30 comeback win. Glad for the Jets, but I feel the pain of the Cleveland faithful, who have to endure yet another agonizing, inexplicable loss by the Browns. My pick: Inaccurate
