Sad news to report today.
Phil Donahue, who I remember best as a daytime talk show host of 'Donahue, has died. He was 88 years old.
As mentioned, Donahue had a very successful run as the host of his own talk show. He also was a well-known media personality, and won an Emmy at one point.
For me, Donahue was one of the shows which my father really enjoyed watching back in the eighties. He sometimes would get home on time to watch it live, and otherwise would often record the show and watch it later, after he got home from work. It goes without saying that back then, with only two televisions in the house, everyone got to watch the Donahue Show from time to time. Sometimes, it was engaging enough to pique my interest, despite being just a kid.
Anyway, I always liked and had respect for Donahue. He felt like a journalist with some intelligence and integrity, two qualities which feel increasingly scarce in today's world. Donahue always handled himself with class and dignity.
RIP, Phil Donahue. You will be missed.
