Climate Update For August 7, 2026: Recent Record Heat Waves Seen in North America, Europe & Eastern Asia

As far as the climate across the globe is concerned, this has been the worst summer that I can ever remember. While it has been relatively cool here in New Jersey for much of the past month or so, that has not been the case for many other regions of the planet. Here in the Garden State, we have certainly had hot days and even some incredible heat waves. Yet we have been relatively fortunate in comparison to other parts of the planet.

Right now, eastern Asia is experiencing a record heatwave. It has produced dangerous conditions. moreover, the situation is being made worse by Mr. Trump's war in Iran, thousands of kilometers away, on the other side of the Asian continent entirely.

How is that possible?

Well, here is a snippet from an article by Biman Mukherji published earlier today (see link below):

On July 31, South Korea recorded its hottest day on record when the mercury level rose to 41.4 degrees Celsius in the southeastern city of Yangsan, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration.

A record temperature of 41.4 Celsius is bad. So how are outside conditions, including the war in Iran, making matters worse?

Here is a bit from the same article (again, see link below):

Climate scientists said the unprecedented heat spell gripping Japan, South Korea and other parts of Asia had been driven by a combination of climate change and the El Nino weather phenomenon.

These conditions have been worsened by rising electricity prices due to an energy crisis stemming from the Middle East conflict, according to analysts.

“Extreme heat in Asia is the result of several factors working together. While El Nino can temporarily raise temperatures by suppressing rainfall, the main driver is long-term human-induced climate change,” said Mariam Zachariah, research associate at Imperial College, London.

Meanwhile, Europe is surely experiencing the worst summer in history, at least in terms of excessive heat. They have seen multiple heat waves, which has mixed with record droughts to produce true misery across the continent. Here is a picture in words taken from a recent article by Gavin Blackburn of EuroNews (see link below):

Italy placed all of its major cities under the highest heat alert on Thursday as a blistering heatwave gripped Europe, setting a national temperature record in Austria, fuelling wildfires in France and disrupting energy and transport systems across the continent.

Austria sees a new record for heat while also experiencing record drought. There are also drought concerns in Hungary and Germany, as well. Wildfires continue to rage in France, as well. Every single Italian city is in high heat alert.

That, on top of all of the earlier headline making heat conditions in Europe dating back to May, well before the summer even officially began. I cannot imagine how this summer season in Europe will not rank as the hottest on record. Possibly by far.

Nor is it just eastern Asia or Europe experiencing unbelievable heat and horrific drought conditions. Here is a snippet from a recent CNN article by Meteorologist Tyler Ory and Andrew Freedman (see link below):

High temperatures will climb between 10 to nearly 20 degrees hotter than they should be — even for the peak of summer — from Southern California to the northern Rockies and Plains from Friday through Tuesday. Death Valley, California, is forecast to see the hottest temperature of this heat wave: a blistering 126 degrees.

This is the latest in a spate of record-breaking heat waves that have affected the US and Europe simultaneously this summer. Human-caused climate change is making heat waves like this one more likely to occur, as well as more intense and longer-lasting, studies show. Particularly strong and slow-moving heat domes are also possibly becoming more common as the world warms, though this is an area of active research.

On top of all of that, serious drought conditions have also contributed to a historic low water level for Lake Mead and Lake Powell combined. And it continues to drop. Remember, this is the water source for millions of people in the western United States.

So to sum up, record hot temperatures and record heatwaves have been experienced multiple times in both North America and Europe this year. A new record heatwave is currently underway in eastern Asia. And record droughts in North America and Europe are making matters far worse. Plus, Mr. Trump's war is making matters worse, as is his infamous climate change denial.

And tens of millions of Americans are still actually arguing whether climate change is a hoax or not?

Seriously?

Then we wonder why the rest of the world thinks us stupid and arrogant, right?

It's time to open your eyes to the reality of what's going on around the planet. It's horrible. And it's happening right now.
