Say what you will, but I have never been prouder to be a fan of Stephen King than during this era of Donald Trump. Yeah, I know that some people act offended and outraged that King has expressed vehement opposition to Trump. But then I remember that those people are the "Fuck Your Feelings" crowd, and that they feel that they are entitled to define what patriotism is in the United States, and it makes me angry and more determined than ever to stand in opposition to their bullshit.
And so I not only accept King's recent political activism, but in fact welcome it. To me, it shows substance over style. Some famous artists hesitate to do that. Recently, I ran into something about actor Tom Selleck, who put up very mild criticism of Trump, but then explained that he did not want to go too far with his criticism, since Trump fans watch movies and television shows, as well, and he did not want to have the numbers of people watching him on the screen compromised.
Fuck that.
From here on out, in fact, I intend to make a point not to watch Tom Selleck if I can help it. Also, I intend to continue to support King and buy and read his books.
Trump represents a turn to arrogance, to hubris, to narcissism for this country. And of course, MAGA is a step towards fascism. You either are dead set against it, or you basically lend your support of it. Respect to all of those who make no bones about it, who take a strong stand. Some things are too important to worry about offending the narrow-minded morons and playing it safe with, at best, a wishy-washy approach towards Trumpism and MAGA.
Absolutely not. This is the time to stand tall and speak loudly and clearly and voice you opposition to everything that this xenophobic, fascist movement represents. Otherwise, we lose what remains of our democracy. Already, it feels like we have lost entirely too much of what remained of the good of the United States prior to this era of Trump and the Mindless MAGA Moron Cult dominating American politics.
So respect to King in this case. He has left absolutely no doubt as to where he stands regarding Trump and the MAGA movement. King has repeatedly launched attacks against Trump and MAGA, and recently did so again.
Referring to Trump claiming that his poll numbers are high - in complete contradiction to reality, as per usual - King warned voters about what happens when they take their vote for granted, or allow a lying malignant narcissist to gain power:
Trump's numbers are in the basement, but he doesn't care. This narcissistic megalomaniac actually believes his poll numbers are "the best they've ever been."
Next time, be careful who you vote for. Don't do it casually. It does make a difference.
King had a couple of humorous posts about Trump's decided lack of intelligence, as well as his ridiculous, "jacking off" dance, as well, in recent days:
Stephen King @StephenKing Aug 4
900 hundred days left for the president with the big behind and empty head. Then we can start repairing the damage he’s done. Starting with NO BALLROOM and RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES!
Stephen King @StephenKing Aug 4 The next time you see Trump doing the Old-Man boogie to YMCA, remember he’s dancing all over the First Amendment. 75 tries to muzzle shit he doesn’t like, all but one thrown out of court.
Again, some people do not like it. But to me, it shows that King values something more than himself or the bottom line of his sales numbers, and thus not offending the entitled morons who are ruining this country. They are the definition of that expression about giving someone an inch and they take a mile. This bullshit needs to be put to an end now. And it's not going to happen unless we all take a strong, united, and very clear stand against it. That is why now more than ever, I support artists who are willing to show backbone and integrity and take a strong stand. It is also why I lose all respect for those in love with their own celebrity status, like Tom Selleck.
I applaud Stephen King regarding his attacks against Trump and MAGA.
