Frankly, I don't understand why people are shocked by this. Apparently, some people still assume that Trump is merely "joking" when he says that he's going to run again in 2028.
Sometimes, it feels unreal that people can observe someone like Trump for such a long time and still not have learned that this guy really is not joking about things like this. When it comes to personal enrichment, or flattering himself, or obtaining power by whatever means necessary, Trump is never joking.
When Trump puts on a hat suggesting that he will be running again in 2028, he means it, literally. I mean, seriously, do you think he is just having difficulty picking between backing Rubio or Vance? Of course now. He refuses to endorse them (without actually admitting that he's refusing) because he has every intention of running again himself. This is a man who's ego will not let him step away from power. For him, it has to be all about him, all of the time.
Wouldn't it just be better to be clear sighted about this, once and for all? Do we always have to act shocked and stunned when Trump defies norms, and even the law, in order to get something he wants, such as in this case obtaining more power? Yes, a third term sounds excessive and even nightmarish. At this point, I don't even believe that most Republicans in Washington want to see Trump run again, even though they themselves will never admit to that.
But run he will. It doesn't matter that he's now 80 years old and will be even older in 2028. Doesn't matter that his health is clearly in decline, or that he apparently cannot stay awake through pretty much any meeting. None of that matters. When has Trump ever shown the least bit of shame for his own embarrassing behavior in public? When has he ever shown any degree of moderation?
No, he is not joking. Yes, he fully intends to run again. And I am willing to be that, despite predictions that he will not even finish out this term due to bad health, or because things are getting tough and everything is sinking (specifically because of this administration) and Trump's poll numbers are in the toilet. None of that matters.
So please, get it through your heads: Trump most certainly is not joking about running again in 2028. At this point, I guess there is still some sliver of doubt in his mind as to whether or not he will be allowed to run. He knows that as the law stands right now, he is not legally able to run again.
It does not matter. Trust me, unless he actually literally dies in office between now and then, he will be running again in 2028.
Count on it. And stop making it seem like he's joking, or all of this is somehow still a joke. It trivializes the seriousness of the abuses in power which this man is transparently responsible for. There is no real sense of humor that this man possesses, other than maybe the ability to mock other people.
Until we take his intentions seriously and stop acting surprised, we can always expect him to remain several steps ahead of us. Wake up.
