A Visit to Clinton, NJ

When I was much younger - we're talking probably mid-teen years here - I remember having this travel booklet for the state of New Jersey. There were some magnificent looking places, and one of them was the Red Mill Museum Village.

Of course back then, I had no idea where this would be. Maybe it even stated the name of the town it was in as Clinton, but again, the location of such places seemed strange. Since we lived in West Milford, which is quite far in northern Jersey, bordering on the state of New York, almost all of the other places felt like they were, simply, vaguely to the south.

Those travel booklets are now long gone, as were the names of many of these places, including the Red Mill Museum Village, and Clinton. I vaguely remembered that there was such a place somewhere in New Jersey, but again, had no idea where it actually was.

Then a few weeks ago, for whatever the reason, it came back to my memory, and so I decided to Google it. I put "Red Mill New Jersey" and got some pictures of what I was looking for (pictures similar to the ones you see down below). There it was, located in Clinton, New Jersey. That was maybe half an hour or so away (it wound up being closer to forty minutes from Hillsborough, as it turns out). But that was still an easy drive for a visit that could be made in one day, as well as the return home.

When my girlfriend decided that she wanted to take off from work for one of surely the last truly beautiful, warm weather days this year - the temperatures were nearing 70 degrees Fahrenheit (or about 21.1. Celsius) - this place immediately came to mind. I told her a bit about it and showed her some pictures, and she seemed amenable.

And so this morning, off we went towards the Red Mill Museum Village in Clinton.

It was not too crowded. Perhaps the fact that it was right smack in the middle of a weekday had something to do with it. Again, though, this would be one of the last beautiful days we likely will have this year, and while we did not exactly have the place to ourselves, it was definitely not too crowded.

So I took plenty of pictures, and thought that they would be worth sharing here.

Enjoy!

Yes, apparently the gang from Scooby Doo was here, with "The Mystery Machine" parked right next to the Red Mill, on a day when the museum was closed. It's October, just days after Friday the 13th, and a week and a half or so away from Halloween. Maybe some kind of haunted event or something? Not sure. It seemed a bit strange, and so I thought I'd take a picture to document the possible siting of some strange event, before the gang inevitably solves the mystery and unmasks the villain responsible. Scooby-Dooby, Doo!
