Yesterday marked the anniversary of Asterix, which first came out on October 29, 1959. Truth be told, I thought it was a bit older than that. I remember my father once talking about growing up, and it seemed that he implied that he grew up with Asterix. Yet, this would have made him 11 when Asterix first came out.
In any case, the Asterix comics clearly have played a prominent role for France ever since it first came out, and obviously became huge. Even my girlfriend, who grew up in Communist-era Poland, was familiar with Asterix from her childhood.
So it seemed fitting to do a small tribute to Asterix.
