NFL 2023-24 Week 8 Preview - Battle of New York Teams

🏈🏈🏈🏈

NY Jets at NY Giants- The Giants officially have home field advantage in this one, although both teams will be right at home in their home stadium, of course. Both teams have been playing better in recent weeks than they had earlier in the season, which is a good sign. However, they both have some limitations, as well. This one feels like it could go either way. My pick: NY Jets

Atlanta at Tennessee - It felt like these two teams had met recently. Alas, no. The Falcons are hot, and that could make them dangerous. But the Titans are tough at home, and that should help them. My pick: Tennessee

Philadelphia at Washington - A solid, divisional rivalry gets renewed. But the Eagles feel like one of the hottest and most capable teams in the league at the moment. Barring a letdown, they should be able to get past the Commanders in this one. My pick: Philadelphia

Jacksonville at Pittsburgh - These two teams used to be in the same division, and had some memorable meetings. This particular match-up is interesting, between two of the hottest teams in the AFC. A dangerous game for both teams, but a win will be huge for either. It could go either way. My pick: Pittsburgh

Minnesota at Green Bay - A tough, divisional rivalry. Expect an ugly game, probably low-scoring. The Vikings historically always have difficulty when they play at Lambeau Field. Today, they should have better luck, and earn a tough, close win. My pick: Minnesota

Houston at Carolina - Carolina wants to finally find a way to end their dreadful, winless start to the season, before this starts to get embarrassing (if it has not already reached that point). the Texans are decent, but they will likely hand the Panthers their first win of the season, at long last. My pick: Carolina

LA Rams at Dallas - It felt like these two teams had just met. In fact, the Cowboys did just meet - and beat - the other Los Angeles team. This time, with home field advantage, look for the 'Boys to take care of the NFC LA team, as well. My pick: Dallas

New England at Miami - The Pats earned themselves a solid upset win over Buffalo last weekend. But going down to Miami, to take on the hottest and most dangerous offense in the league this weekend? Too much. My pick; Miami

New Orleans at Indianapolis - The Saints and the Colts make an interesting match-up this weekend. Gone are the days when these two teams were the hottest i the league and met in the Super Bowl. This one also feels like it could go either way, but I give the nod (slightly) too he hometown team. My pick: Indianapolis

Cleveland at Seattle - The Browns are pretty hot. But Seattle is one of the most difficult places for any road team to play. And the Seahawks are a very tough team this year. Look for the Browns to keep it relatively close through the first half, maybe well into the second half. In the end, the Seahawks should find a way to win. My pick: Seattle

Kansas City at Denver - The Chiefs are red hot. The Broncos are not. True, Wilson has been playing well this season, and Denver has improved since that embarrassment against the Dolphins. Still, the Chiefs are the better team, and should emerge victorious here today. My pick: Kansas City

Cincinnati at San Francisco - Cincinnati historically never seems to do well against the 49ers. They suffered some of their most heartbreaking losses in franchise history against SF. That includes their first two Super Bowl appearances back in the 1980's, as well as heartbreaking losses in both the 1987 and 1990 seasons. In fact, I cannot remember a single victory by the Bengals over the 49ers, although I am sure that it has happened. While my heart will be pulling for Cincy, I expect the 49ers, who have dropped two in a row, to be particularly hungry and determined to get off their current slide. My pick: San Francisco

Baltimore at Arizona - The Ravens are just a couple of plays at key moments in their two losses removed from being an undefeated team at this point. If things could only have worked slightly differently. Still, they are a solid team, and they should be able to get past this much weaker team for this one. My pick: Baltimore

SNF - Chicago at LA Chargers - The Bears are playing much, much better lately. Still, they have vulnerabilities. Of course, so do the Chargers, as their current losing record attests to. So this could go either way. But I give the slight edge to the hometown team. My pick: LA Chargers

MNF - LA Raiders at Detroit - Whenever I see a game with the Raiders at the Lions, I think bac to that memorable Monday Night Football meeting between these two in the 1990 season, which the visiting Raiders won, 38-31. This one will likely go the other way, as the Lions have home field advantage, feel like the better team, and most assuredly want to bounce back from that embarrassing blowout loss they suffered last weekend. My pick: Detroit
