Buffalo Bills 24, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 18
The Bills got the job done yesterday, holding off a fourth quarter attempted rally by the Bucs to secure the win. And it was an important win for Buffalo, because they could hardly afford to let this game slip by them, as they did in each of their three losses so far this season. Indeed, you could make the arguments that the Bills really should have beaten the Jets on opening weekend, or the Jaguars in London, or the Patriots last weekend. But at least they did beat Tampa Bay last night.
That said, this was the kind of a win where there are still concerns. Since crushing the Dolphins the week after the Fins put up 70 points against the Broncos, the Bills have not had a very convincing win. It would have been more comforting for Bills fans, I suspect, had they bounced back from last weekend's disappointing and frustrating loss if they had beaten the Bucs as convincingly as they bounced back from that loss to the Jets by thrashing the Raiders, 38-10. Indeed, the Bills seemed to warrant talk of them still be among the elites with wins like that, which included them beating the Commanders, 37-3, on the road in Washington. More or less hanging on in the fourth, when they could have instead put the exclamation point on a solid win by scoring again and putting the game out of reach, would have shown more determination and will and momentum, instead of just managing to hang on for another fairly narrow victory.
Still, a win is a win. The Bills were solid enough to earn it, and moved up to 5-3 on the year. The Bucs, meanwhile, are really struggling. This was their third straight loss after surprising many with an impressive 3-1 start. They now find themselves fully one game behind the Falcons, the team that they lost to last week, and tied with the Saints for second in the NFC South.
My pick: Accurate
