Thursday Night Football - Denver Broncos (1-4) at Kansas City Chiefs (4-1)
The Chiefs have won the past 15 meetings between these two teams.
Right now, there's also not much to elaborate on, because the choice feels obvious. The Chiefs, the defending Super Bowl champions who feel like they may still be on the cusp of a dynasty, are looking good. They are 4-1, and while the offense is not looking as explosive as they have at times in years past, they still are getting the job done. They also still have Patrick Mahomes at the helm, and they still have Travis Kelce. Also, Andy Reid is just a very solid coach, even a great coach. The defense seems to have stepped up and are doing the job nicely. If not for a narrow, one-point loss to start the season, they would be undefeated at this point.
Meanwhile, the Broncos feel, once again, like a team in disarray. Their defense is awful, allowing at least 28 points in each of their last four games (including that record 70-point game at Miami). So it seems a safe bet that KC will score some points against that defense.
As far as the offense is concerned, they can score some points. Russell Wilson was a big part of the problem last season, but he is actually enjoying a pretty solid season thus far. The offense is not the most explosive unit in the league, but they can, and have scored, points. The problem has been that the offense is not so explosive that they can make up for the ground lost by that extremely leaky defense, which is allowing far too many points.
So expect a high-scoring game, but with the Chiefs ultimately winning by a comfortable margin, and the offense looking on point. KC just has too many weapons, and Denver will not be able to keep up in what might be a shootout.
My pick: Kansas City
